On August 12, 2025, the White House published aLetter to the Smithsonian: Internal Review of Smithsonian Exhibitions and Materials, where 3 members of the President's Task Force 250 will visit the Smithsonian in preparation for next year's celebrations. IAW EO14253 Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History, the Task Force will be doing a comprehensive review of what the Smithsonian is displaying and how it is being displayed to ensure all displays are in alignment with the Trump Administration's directives ensuring American exceptionalism is celebrated and divisive or partisan narratives are removed. The Task Force will focus on 1) Public-facing content; 2) Curatorial Process; 3) Exhibition Planning; 4) Collection Use; and 5) Narrative Standards.
The Task Force intends to being their review with the following 8 (of the 21) museums: 1) National Museum of American History, 2) National Museum of Natural History, 3) National Museum of African American History and Culture, 4) National Museum of the American Indian, 5) National Air and Space Museum, 6) Smithsonian American Art Museum, 7) National Portrait Gallery, and 8) Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. Additional museums will be added in Phase II of the review.
The Task Force requests that each museum provide a primary contact person and provide materials (including online content) for the following 10 areas:1) 250th Anniversary Programming, 2) Current Exhibition Content, 3) Traveling and Upcoming Exhibitions, 4) Internal Guidelines and Governance, 5) Index of the Permanent Collection, 6) Educational Materials, 7) Digital Presence, 8) External Partnerships, 9) Grant-Related Documentation, and 10) Surveys and other evaluations of visitor experience.
This should be a fun one. The Smithsonian is supposed to be the repository for everything in US History from before the founding of our country. But, they have been allowed to diverge into partisan pandering in their displays. I might even go so far as to question the veracity of the information they present on some topics. It is good to know that the Task Force is on top of this situation and I look forward to hearing about the massive changes the Smithsonian will need to undertake to refocus their attention on the American People and our successes throughout our short history.

On August 12, 2025, the White House published the August 2025 Council of Economic Advisers Research Report:Retail Access to Alternative Investments Via Defined Contribution Plansavailable for download as a pdf by clicking here. The 30 page document presents implications of President Trump's recent "alternative investments through defined contribution plans" (i.e., the impact of EO 14330 Democratizing Access to Alternative Assets for 401(K) Investors discussed in my August 8, 2025 ANP Article). Of course, what they "found" in their research is very positive towards "access to private equity through defined contribution plans" stating that many plans could benefit from adding these alternative investments to create diversification. However, they do caution that older people will see less benefit from these investments over the remainder of their lifetime compared to younger investors. Which is just common sense when you think about it. Older investors will not hold the investments as long as the younger investors; therefore, older investors will receive less benefit. My advice? Consult with your trusted investment professional (or 2 or 3 of them for a wider range of opinions) before making any changes.

On August 11, 2025, an appeal was filed in the lawsuitAFGE v. Trump docket #1:25-cv-00352 changed to 25-5290 in Circuit Court of Appeals for DC regarding USAID Dismantling. The original lawsuit charged:1. Violation of Separation of Powers (against all Defendants); 2. Violation of Take Care Clause (against all Defendants); 3. Administrative Procedure Act706(2)(C) In Excess of Statutory Authority (against Defendants State Department, USAID, Department of Treasury, Rubio, and Bessent); 4. Violation of the Administrative Procedure Act706(2)(A) Arbitrary and capricious (against Defendants State Department, USAID, Department of Treasury, Rubio, and Bessent). An appeal was filed charging that the plaintiffs were denied "summary judgement" by the judge who dismissed the case. Seems to me if a judge dismissed the case, that would be the "summary judgement."
On August 12, 2025, the lawsuitAmerican Federation of Teachers v. Bessent docket # 25-1282 (appeal of 8:25-cv-00430) regarding DOGE was remanded back to District court by the Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit. The remand does not indicate why it was remanded. The original lawsuit charged: 1. Violation of APA (Not in accordance with law); 2. Violation of APA (Arbitrary and capricious); 3. Violation of APA (Excess of statutory authority). So AFT is angry that DOGE would have info on teachers. But, teacher info is part of the public record, along with everyone else who receives a paycheck from any form of government (from city to Federal), so they truly have no leg to stand on here. I remember the year our newspaper published the payroll information on every teacher in our district (and we were the 5th largest in the nation back then).
I forged more than iron in those years, I helped forge a nation. I came here [to the colonies] a servant, I died a citizen.
Today's Patriot is George Taylor who was born in 1716 possibly in Ulster, North of Ireland (now known as Northern Ireland). Nothing is known about his life before he immigrated to the Colonies in 1736 as an indentured servant to Samuel Savage Jr, ironmaster, French Creek Iron Works, Coventry, Chester County, NW of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He began as a laborer. By 1739, the company discovered he was educated, so they moved him into a position of clerk. Samuel died in 1742. George took over after he married Samuel's widow.
George married Samuel Savage's widow, Ann Taylor Savage in 1743. George and Ann had 2 children, one of whom, a girl, died before adulthood. Upon the reading of his will after his death, it was discovered that George had also fathered 5 children with his housekeeper, Naomi Smith.
Ann had children by Samuel, so in 1752 when her son Samuel III came of legal age to inherit, Samuel III assumed ownership of the mills & ironworks. After turning over the running of the businesses to Samuel's son, George moved his family to Durham, Pennsylvania where he leased an iron furnace thinking the wars would easily keep him in business for a number of years. And he was correct. His thoughts turned to politics and while they were in Durham, he served 3 terms as Justice of the Peace for Buck County.
In 1763, the iron furnace lease expired and he moved his family to Easton, Pennsylvania. He joined the Provincial Assembly while simultaneously acting as Justice of the Peace for Northampton County, Pennsylvania.
George was elected to the Assembly in 1775. He was appointed by the Assembly to replace the Crown Loyalists who were encouraged to "retire" from the Continental Congress. He arrived at the Congress on July 20 and was one of the first to sign the approved Declaration. By February 17, 1777, the Assembly appointed a new delegation, leaving George off their list. In March 1777, he was appointed to the Supreme Executive Council, formed to govern the commonwealth. On April 5, 1777, he fell ill and was bedridden for more than a month, so he was replaced on the Council.
His iron furnace partner, Joseph Galloway, was convicted as a traitor and his properties, including the jointly-leased furnace, were seized. George worked out an agreement to fulfill the lease; but in 1779 the property was sold. By 1780, with his health failing, he returned to Easton, Pennsylvania.
George died February 23, 1781, at age 65 in Easton, Pennsylvania. He was interred at St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, in Easton. His estate was declared insolvent by 1799 after years of legal wrangling over who was supposed to get what, so no one got anything. When the church property was sold in 1870, he was re-interred at Easton Cemetery.
George was the only signer to have been an indentured servant and an iron master. He was one of 8 signers who were born overseas and one of 3 born in Ireland (James Smith and Matthew Thornton were the other 2).
