In 1920, President Woodrow Wilson issued the first National Fire Prevention Day. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) explains that the observance of a Fire Prevention Week began in 1922. President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed Fire Prevention Week as a national observance in 1925. Fire Prevention Week commemorates the Great Chicago Fire that began on October 8, 1871 but did the most damage on October 9, 1871; therefore, Fire Prevention Week falls in the week of October 9 (Sunday through Saturday). The focus is on fire prevention education.
The Smokey Bear campaign on preventing forest fires began in 1944 with the slogan "Smokey Says - Care Will Prevent 9 out of 10 Forest Fires." The slogan morphed in 1947 to "Remember...Only YOU Can Prevent Forest Fires." In April 2001, the slogan morphed again to "Only You Can Prevent Wildfires" to put the emphasis on unplanned outdoor fires not controlled burns.
Sparky the Fire Dog (a dalmatian dressed in firefighter's gear) was created in 1951 and is the official mascot of the NFPA. Where Smokey Bear's message is about wildfires, Sparky's message addresses home fire safety.

In 2016, the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) began leading initiatives for Manufacturing Day. The focus of this day is to show the reality of modern manufacturing careers while encouraging manufacturers to open their doors to companies and educational institutions providing a glimpse into what current manufacturing is like.
As we begin the 2nd week of the Democrat-forced Federal government shutdown, the Senate decided to not take a vote October 7, 2025. The White House thought this X post was appropriate to commemorate the decision to not force another vote:

Those are some of the exact words used by Googles censors, aka 'Orwelliancontent police,' in describing many of our controversial stories.Stories later proven to be truthful and light years ahead of the mainstream media. But because we reported those 'inconvenient truths' they're trying to bankrupt ANP.
