Our Emergency Medical Service (EMS) providers are made up of ordinary Americans who demonstrate extraordinary courage, compassion, and devotion to duty. When seconds count and lives hang in the balance, we can always count on EMS providers to act swiftly and valiantly in rendering expert medical care.
While we salute and honor the service of our emergency medical technicians, paramedics, emergency medicine nurses and physicians every week, this National EMS Week, we pay special tribute to those who selflessly sacrifice so others may live.
We recognize the sacrifice our EMS providers make each and every day in every corner of our country. Whether on an ambulance or in an emergency room, aboard aircraft or sea-faring vessels, Americans rest easy knowing that the greatest and most field-tested medical providers anywhere in the World are standing by to respond in a moments notice.
This week, my Administration honors every EMS professional who is selflessly working on the frontlines of crisis to aid others in their hour of need. We offer our unending gratitude to every noble professional and volunteer whose strength, fortitude, and determination keeps America safe.
In 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized EMS Week to celebrate EMS professionals and the important work they do in our nation's communities. National Emergency Medical Services Week brings together local communities and medical personnel to honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's frontline. EMS Week is presented by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) in partnership with the National Associations of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT). Together, NAEMT and ACEP lead annual EMS Week activities. These organizations are working to ensure that the important contributions of EMS professionals in safeguarding the health, safety and well-being of their communities are fully celebrated and recognized.
Sunday is Health, Wellness, and Resilience Day
To promote the health, wellness, and resilience of EMS professionals and patients. Health, Wellness, and Resilience Day highlights the need to recognize and care for the health and wellness of EMS professionals and patients and share ideas on strengthening resilience. It is an opportunity to step back and take care of ourselves through self-care and care for our fellow EMS professionals and the patients in our care every day.
Monday is Education Day
Education Day seeks to highlight community educational programs and the importance of continuing education for EMS professionals. This is the ideal day to plan a community injury or illness prevention program and a special CE course for your agency. Consider in-person or online community education programs related to the prevention of falls, burns, poisoning, or drowning.
Tuesday is EMS Safety Day
To promote Safety for the EMS professional, the patient, and the public, Safety Day encourages first responders to focus on risk and prevention rather than possible negative outcomes and aims to advance safety measures for both the community and the profession. This is a great day to highlight stress reduction, self-care, and mental health awareness programs. Other options for programs include improved situational awareness, driving and roadway safety, vehicle and device maintenance, proper lifting techniques, or violence awareness.
Wednesday is EMS for Children Day
To highlight the special needs of caring for children EMS for Children Day highlights the distinctive physiological and psychological aspects of caring for children and serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about improving specialized care for children in pre-hospital and acute care settings. Consider planning a pediatric care educational event for your clinicians and a community program related to first aid, emergency preparedness, car seats or bicycle safety.
Thursday is Save-A-Life Day
To promote Stop the Bleed, public CPR programs and other programs It doesnt matter how quickly EMS professionals get to a scenebystanders will almost always be there first. Save-A-Life Day empowers the general public to learn and apply steps that can be taken to help save a life. This is an ideal day to schedule community CPR and Stop the Bleed educational courses. Take advantage of the many programs and toolkits available that make it easier to coordinate these programs.
Friday is EMS Recognition Day
To recognize your local EMS heroes and those who save lives through the EMS system. On EMS Recognition Day, we honor members of the EMS community who regularly go above and beyond whats expected. Its a day to give gratitude to first responders for their unwavering commitment to serving their communities. Plan an awards event, a special meal, a gift-giving event, and other honors for EMS Recognition Day.
Saturday is EMS Remembrance Day
To honor emergency medical services personnel who have died in the line-of-duty and to recognize the ultimate sacrifice they made for their communities. We thank them for their service to EMS and for bringing comfort and lifesaving care to their patients. They leave us with the proud memory of their commitment and dedication to EMS. This day is set aside to recognize those fallen EMS professionals and their families. Some ideas for this day include: Plan a memorial ceremony, hold a moment of silence event, create a Wall of Honor, host a ceremony to recognize families or establish a memorial scholarship.
On May 20, 1902, after years of fierce warfare in the late 19th century, the Cuban flag was raised for the first time in a mighty victory for the cause of freedom. This Cuban Independence Day, we honor the courageous patriots who broke free from Spanish colonial rule to heroically embrace the eternal values of liberty, sovereignty, and human dignity. My Administration offers its heartfelt support to the people of Cuba as they once again seek to secure their God-given rightsand we recommit to assisting them in their righteous pursuit of self-government.
For far too long, the communist Cuban regime has trampled on the rights of its people to lead lives of freedomand has caused endless poverty, suffering, and hardship. America will continue to work alongside our allies and partners in the Western Hemisphere to bring stability, liberty, cooperation, and a free future to the people of Cuba.
As President, I also stand firmly united with the millions of Cuban Americans who have courageously escaped the horrors of Cuban communism, rejected the evils of tyranny, and built their lives, families, and futures on American shores. America benefits greatly from the strength, warmth, and generosity of millions of Cuban Americans, who have contributed to our way of life.
Today, we honor the strength of all those who have dedicated their lives to fighting for their beloved homeland. We pay tribute to the distinctive role Cuban Americans have played in our national story. On Cubas Independence Day I want to express my unwavering support and solidarity for the Cuban people. I commend all those who have stood up against over six decades of brutal repression, censorship, and human rights violations at the hands of the illegitimate Cuban regime. Their tireless advocacy for a free, democratic, and prosperous Cuba remains a beacon of hope and resistance for the world. Today we honor their sacrifice, courage, and resilience.
. . . in April 1898 Congress conferred then sent a measure to President William McKinley recognizing Cuba's independence from Spain while authorizing US military personnel to enter Cuba to force Spain off not only the island of Cuba but from colonial outposts in the South Pacific and Caribbean.
It was not until May 20, 1902 when Cuba was recognized as an independent nation and when Toms Estrada Palma was sworn in as the first president. That same day the American flag was lowered to raise for the first time the Cuban flag. On this day the American troops began to back out and the power was transferred to the first president-elect Tomas Estrada Palma, thus fulfilling the greatest aspiration of the Cuban people to embark on the road to democracy.

Today, First Lady Melania Trump welcomed children to the White House with a patriotic arts and crafts activity in the Kennedy Garden as part of the White Houses annual Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day celebration. Thank you very much and thank you for being here in the Oval Office, one of the great places of the world as we make a historic announcement about the Golden Dome Missile Defense Shield. That's something we want and Ronald Reagan wanted it many years ago. But they didn't have the technology. It's something we're going to have. We're going to have it at the highest level.
I want to thank Secretary Hegseth who's been fantastic, Secretary Rubio, and Space Force Vice Chief of Space Operations General Mike Guetlein. I also want to recognize Senators Dan Sullivan, Kevin Kramer, and Jim Banks. Fantastic senators. Great talents. Great political talents and people that love our country.
In the campaign I promised the American people that I would build a cutting edge missile defense shield to protect our homeland from the threat of foreign missile attack and that's what we're doing today. I'm pleased to announce that we have officially selected an architecture for the state-of-the-art system that will deploy next generation technologies across the land sea and space including space-based sensors and interceptors.
Canada has called us and they want to be a part of it so we'll be talking to them. They want to have protection also. So, as usual, we help Canada. [We will] do the best we can. This design for the Golden Dome will in integrate with our existing defense capabilities and should be fully operational before the end of my term. So we'll have it done in about three years. Once fully constructed the Golden Dome will be capable of intercepting missiles even if they are launched from other sides of the world. And even if they are launched from space. And we will have the best system ever built.
As you know, we helped Israel with theirs and it was very successful. Now we have technology that's even far advanced from that; including hypersonic missiles ballistic missiles and advanced cruise missiles. All of them will be knocked out of the air. We will truly be completing the job that President Reagan started 40 years ago, forever ending the missile threat to the American homeland. The success rate is very close to 100% which is incredible when you think of it. You're shooting bullets out of the air.
I'm also pleased to report that the One Big Beautiful Bill [item 18 above] will include $25 billion for the Golden Dome to help construction get underway. That's the initial sort of a down deposit. . . . We're talking about $175 billion total cost of this when it's completed.
This afternoon I'm also announcing that I will appoint, very importantly, General Guetleinto lead the ambitious new effort as the direct reporting program manager for the Golden Dome. Very talented man.
And I'm very honored to have been the one that helped or really created Space Force. Space Force has turned out to be a tremendous success we were third in space and now we're number one in space by a lot. It's not even close.
And Mike is a four-star space force general, the recipient of the defense distinguished service medal, one of the most respected people in the world having to do with defense. You know we have offense and we have defense. I'll bet he's good at offense too! And he is an unmatched background in missile warning technology and defense procurement.

This was a universal acceptance of General Guetlein.Everybody that knows him and knows everybody else. They said there's only one man for the job so I have a feeling we have the right guy.
