The article reminds us more than 1,000,000 federal employees are on 'deferred' payment for the work they are doing now. They are working under the impression that when the Democrats finally decide to vote YEA on the CR they voted YEA on 13 times previously (12 of those during the Autopen Administration), they will receive the pay they earned.
The article reminds us that airports are experiencing enhanced staffing issues pointing out that air traffic controllers are traditionally short-staffed and routinely are asked to work overtime (more so with the shutdown).

Small businesses are also being affected by the shutdown many of them depend on the income generated by the Federal workers who frequent their businesses before, during, or after their workday, especially restaurants that cater to the Federal workers at lunchtime with many generating the majority of their business income from those Federal workers.
Tourists are finding Federal museums and the National Zoo have been fully closed since Sunday October 19, 2025 due to the Democrat shutdown.

The article reaches the conclusion that the shutdown is not an honest policy dispute. The article calls it a malicious, calculated, twisted assault on our nation and its citizens.

One thing no one mentions is how this shutdown impacts the agreed upon changes from the OBBB that were supposed to go into effect on October 1, 2025 Such as the additional funding for ICE & BCP to support the efforts to remove illegal aliens from our country. The funding for rural hospitals. And all the other "for the US citizens" program changes of the OBBB that were supposed to be funded on October 1, 2025.
I recommend you take stock of your preps and pantry and restock what you can before the end of the month.
Feeding America offers information on Senior Food Programs which include programs like Commodity Supplemental Food Program, Senior food box programs, Senior food pantries, Home food delivery, Senior farmer's markets, and Senior mobile pantries (just be a Senior).
The Commodity Supplemental Food Program is a Federally funded program through the USDA. They provide for Seniors at or below 130% of the Federal Poverty Line which is approximately $15,301 for a senior (60 or older) living alone.
Meals on Wheels is listed under Home food delivery above. Just beware that this is mostly Federally funded, so they will have the same issues as other Federally funded programs (i.e., no income from the Federal government). When I tried to get Meals on Wheels for my uncle, he was put on a waiting list and they told me their funding had been cut (during the Autopen administration), so some Seniors who were getting assistance were put back on the waiting list. Over a year later, I moved my uncle to another city, he never made it off the list.
Feeding America also has a "find free food and groceries" page to assist you in quickly locating programs in your area.
In Las Vegas, three square offers Senior food services and a Golden Groceries program that can include home delivery and curbside pickup options. If you call them (702-765-4030) they will also help you find other services and resources to assist you. Golden Groceries has partnered with Lyft to provide free once-a-month rides for seniors (60+): 1 round trip to a Golden Groceries pantry, 1 round trip to a grocery store to use SNAP benefits (must be enrolled in SNAP), and 2 free round trip rides to any congregate meal (within a 10-mile radius). And they do not require you to have a smart phone or cell phone to use their services.
