Quick recap: A judge is attempting to block President Trump from sending in the National Guard and President Trump threatening to use the Insurrection Act to bypass the courts in order to clean up the mess that has Portland, Oregon has become over the past couple of decades.
"You look at what's happening with Portland over the years, it's a burning hell hole," Trump told reporters, who had gathered in the Oval Office at the White House. "And then you have a judge that lost her way that tries to pretend that there's no problem."
"I'd do it if it was necessary. So far, it hasn't been necessary. But we have an Insurrection Act for a reason," Trump said. "If I had to enact it, I'd do that. If people were being killed, and courts were holding us up or governors or mayors were holding us up, sure, I'd do that. I mean, I want to make sure people aren't killed."
The Insurrection Act is a federal law, enacted in 1807, that allows the president to deploy the U.S. military to stop what the president considers to be a "criminal insurrection" against the United States.
Before using the Insurrection Act, the Trump administration has filed an appeal with the9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to stay the judge's order that is attempting to block him from using the National Guard to protect federal facilities and federal law enforcement in Portland. In California earlier in the year, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sided with the Trump administration.
Action could come quickly. While it was unclear early Monday afternoon when appeals judges might rule on the motion, they acted swiftly when Trump federalized the California National Guard earlier this year. At the time, large and sometimes violent protests over immigration crackdowns were playing out in Los Angeles.
In that case, a three-judge panel from the 9th Circuit blocked a judicial order that would have prevented a military deployment mere hours after it was issued. Thousands of National Guard members were ultimately sent to the city, along with hundreds of Marines.
As a writer that has written about Portland, Oregon and their Antifa thigs terrorizing neighborhoods, as did Stefan Stanford before he passed away (may he rest in peace), for nearly a decade (our first Portland piece was in 2016), it is so good to see President Trump so determined to clean that filthy city up.
A brief trip down ANP memory lane, showing exactly why Portland, Oregon needs the Trump administration to go in, clean up the streets and clean out Portland Antifa, which are part of Antifa groups that President Trump now designated as a domestic terror group.
First a quick video from 2019 which clear shows Portland Antifa thugs directing traffic, ordering people to drive where they want them to go, and Portland police off to the side, simply allowing Antifa to take over the streets, because they were ordered to stand down.
As can be seen, ANP is not just jumping on send the National Guard to Portland, Oregon bandwagon, we and many other Independent News websites have been calling for this type of action for almost a decade.
Portland police threatens drivers to protect Antifa
Now in October 2025, we see that instead of Antifa directing traffic to avoid their constant protests in the streets, the police are actively threatening to arrest drivers if they dare drive down a street that Antifa has taken over.

More on what Antifa has been doing Portland, Oregon, since June 2025.
The Post Millennial reported that at least three individuals affiliated with Antifa were arrested during a protest outside an ICE facility in Portland. The outlet noted that the ICE facility located on Macadam Avenue in South Portland has been repeatedly surrounded by protesters and Antifa members since June.
Federal immigration officials say they are preparing to deploy agents to Portland as groups they describe as Antifa-linked have escalated attacks on personnel and facilities. ICE officials warned they will act if local authorities fail to intervene.
"It's been a consistent battle every night with Antifa in Portland," Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons said on "Americas Newsroom" Wednesday.
"We've called on local and state officials to help, but we just haven't seen the help."
Violent Antifa criminals have laid siege to the ICE detention center in Portland, Oregon, for over 100 days.
Every night the encampment of wackos some dressed as unicorns or chickens blast loud music, engage in anti-government chants over loudspeakers and megaphones, and when they violently clash with law enforcement officers, it reverberates around the neighborhood.
On Friday, the Department of Justice charged six additional Antifa-affiliated individuals accused of carrying out criminal acts during anti-ICE direct actions at the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Portland, Oregon. The defendants were arraigned in US District Court on June 20. Charges include assaulting federal police officers, refusing to comply with police orders, blinding officers with high-powered lasers, and attempting to trap federal agents inside the ICE facility, according to a press release. The incidents occurred on June 18 and June 19.
In Portland, Oregon, Antifa militants have engaged in a prolonged and violent insurrection targeting the local Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility since mid-June 2025. The group has attempted nightly attacks, including arson attempts to burn down the building, and has established a nearby encampment distributing riot gear and recruiting participants. Federal officers have responded with targeted arrests, charging at least 17 Antifa suspects with offenses related to the attacks. The facility has been boarded up and fenced off due to ongoing threats.
While the sustained attacks against the federal ICE facility in Portland have been going on since June 2025, Portland Antifa attacks against that ICE facility actually started in January 2025, just hours after President Trump was sworn as the 47th President of the United States.
Antifa militants targeted an ICE detention center in Portland, Oregon, on Monday night, just hours after President Donald Trump was sworn into office. The incident was in retaliation to the Trump administration's mass deportation operations and crackdown on illegal immigration. No arrests were made and the far-left extremist group vowed to carry out more acts of violence against federal immigration officials and facilities, according to social media posts.
There are dozens more local reports, social media reports, and Independent Media reports, while the national so-called "mainstream" media, the MSM, ignores leftist Antifa violence in Portland so they can criticize President Trump for targeting Antifa domestic terrorists that are attacking federal facilities and federal law enforcement.
The MSM is siding with the domestic terrorists, as usual, because...... *checks notes*, ORANGE. MAN. BAD.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has met face to face with Portland city leaders and tells Fox News' Jesse Watters that she gave them fair warning "What I told him is that if he did not follow through on some of these security measures for our officers [that] we were going to cover him up with more federal resources," Noem said. "And that we were going to send four times the amount of federal officers here so that the people of Portland could have some safety."
Until the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rules on the National Guard being brought in, or the U.S. Supreme Court if the 9th circuit doesn't side with the Trump administration, Noem can simply bring in as much federal law enforcement as she needs to protect federal facilities and personnel.
BOTTOM LINE.....
Portland, Oregon city and state leaders have allowed Antifa terrorists to control the streets and terrorize the citizens of Portland, Oregon for almost a decade, so it could take the Trump administration months to clean their mess up.
