Cuban Independence Day, FLOTUS Pillars Of Foster Care, America 250 Amelia Earhart Solo Flight, America250 Boston Tea Party, And More

By S.E. Gunn, PhDAll News Pipeline

On May 20, 2026, the White House published the Presidential Message on Cuban Independence Day (previously discussed in my May 21, 2025 ANP Article) acknowledges the once-free nation was made independent 124 years ago, throwing off the yoke of the Spanish Empire. However, 70 years ago, the communists took over, denying fair elections, viciously silencing dissent, dismantling the freedoms the Cuban people fought to hard to achieve. The communist dictators hoarded Cuba's resources while their people floundered. President Trump writes:

As President, I am taking decisive action on behalf of this long-suffering corner of our hemisphere, and to address threats to our national security emanating from the region.  Under my leadership, our Nation is severing the financial lifelines that, for too long, have sustained brutal regimes across Central and South America and funded their trans-national criminal and terrorist operations that threaten the United States.  In January, our Nation’s incredible Armed Forces carried out one of the boldest, most impressive special operations in generations—the capture and extradition of the Venezuelan narcoterrorist, Nicolas Maduro.  The indictment and removal of Maduro sent a clear message to his socialist allies in Havana: this is our Hemisphere and those that destabilize it and threaten the United States will face consequences.

Following the Maduro raid, I have enacted powerful new sanctions on Cuba’s military and intelligence apparatus, and those who provide it with material and financial support, depriving the regime of resources and its elites from the opportunity to profit from the people’s suffering. My commitment is ironclad:  America will not tolerate a rogue state harboring hostile foreign military, intelligence and terror operations just ninety miles from the American homeland, and we will not rest until the people of Cuba once again have the freedom their forefathers fought so valiantly to establish over 100 years ago.

On this Cuban Independence Day, our Republic stands in solidarity with the Cuban people and with the millions of Cuban-Americans who have so profoundly enriched the life of our Nation.  Many of them came to these shores with nothing, built extraordinary lives, and embraced with their whole hearts the constitutional way of life that makes America the greatest country on earth.  Today, we salute them and remember all those who have sacrificed for a free Cuba, and we look with confidence toward a new Golden Age for the island and its people.

I am sure the Cuban people are looking forward to having the yoke of communist oppression removed from their necks. Who better to give a message of hope to the Cuban people than our own Cuban descendent Secretary of State Marco Rubio (the speech is in Cuban Spanish with English subtitles):

On May 20, 2026, the Office of the First Lady published the statement First Lady Melania Trump’s 4 Community-Centric Pillars of Foster Care presented at the US Senate Spouses Luncheon in Washington, DC. Here are the First Lady's full remarks:

Thank you, Mrs. Sullivan and Mrs. Wyden. I commend your leadership and applaud the work of your entire team, whose dedication made this day possible.

Yesterday, the House unanimously passed the Fostering the Future Act. It is especially fitting that we are together today, because your spouses—America’s Senators—now have the opportunity to turn this momentum into permanent legislation to protect our foster care community. Inspire them!

If I could spare one heart from breaking,
would you rise with me?

Somewhere on the edge of your town, within your very own community, a young child is praying for help. We have all heard these heartbreaking stories. A child is neglected behind closed doors and lives without the safety and stability that every kid deserves. Their parents are overcome by addiction. The child is vulnerable to harm and abuse.

All of America’s children should be experiencing only love, respect, and protection in a warm, comfortable, and safe home. If you take the time to look for this person, if you commit to finding this individual, you can change the world. My initiative, Fostering the Future, is built on four community-centric pillars to support America’s youth.

First, education is vital. We must strive to provide an unmovable foundation for America’s foster care children. This foundation should be built on knowledge and wisdom. We can all benefit from a strong education, and, as you are aware, intelligence is one of the rare traits a person can carry throughout their lifetime. Children in foster care must have the opportunity to plant their roots in education. We are fortunate to live in a time when humanity has more access to information than ever before. Access to this level of information sparks innovation, creates jobs, and cultivates a more tolerant, kinder, and peaceful world.

Second, our children in foster care need love. Family brings warmth and an understanding that they are not abandoned, not alone, and not solitary. They are loved. In turn, these individuals will move through our communities with more motivation to find their purpose in life. The physical structure of a house is not enough.

Third, we need to inspire career ambition. When these individuals secure an entry-level job, they can be financially independent, avoid homelessness, and perhaps even become the next great business visionary. This circle can create new jobs for our society, bring more financial value, and raise our community’s worth across healthcare, food, and housing.

Fourth, resilience. The power of individuals who are from the foster care community shines. They want to succeed, and they do succeed. They know they are unbreakable and can become stronger. They persevere.

If every one of your states gets involved to support our foster care community, we can accelerate our vision to protect these individuals and set them on a pathway to shine. I consider this your moral obligation. Last month, I advanced my foster care legislative initiative at the House Ways and Means Committee on Capitol Hill. Two inspiring young Americans from the foster care community joined us to share their personal stories. Their powerful statements united the bipartisan group around a shared goal of passing new law protecting the foster care community. The bill will soon reach the Senate. Their names are Jayden Martinez and Jocelyn Fetting.

I highlight their names because Jocelyn and Jayden are living proof that the American Dream is within reach for all. This is and should be America’s priority, and together, we will make America stronger for our children and grandchildren. Thank you for joining me here today. Your leadership in establishing Fostering the Future within your state can leave a lasting mark on the life of a young person in your community. Together, we will change lives.

Well, the SAVE America Act is still not being discussed in either chamber of Congress. However, the House passed (after the first vote failed) HR2616 - Parental Rights Over The Education and Care of Their Kids Act or the PROTECT Kids Act which is summarized as follows:

This bill requires public elementary and middle schools, as a condition of receiving certain federal funds for elementary and secondary education, to obtain parental consent before changing a student's gender on school forms or changing a student's sex-based accommodations.

Specifically, an elementary school or a school consisting of only grades 5-8 must obtain parental consent before changing a minor student's (1) gender markers, pronouns, or preferred name on any school form; or (2) sex-based accommodations, including locker rooms or bathrooms.

Now it goes to the Senate where, based on past performance, Thune will tank it like he's done the SAVE America Act and other laws We The People want passed.

On May 20, 2026, the White House published America 250: Presidential Message on Amelia Earhart’s Flight Across the Atlantic celebrating the 94th anniversary of her first solo flight. Amelia embodied bold ambition as she pushed boundaries in aviation. She set altitude and speed records shortly after receiving her pilot's license. By 1928, she became a household name after successfully completing a cross Atlantic flight as part of a 2-person crew.

On her first solo cross-Atlantic journey May 20, 1932, she soared into history. She battled exhaustion, a leaking fuel tank, an engine fire, and fierce weather that drove her to set down in an Irish pasture (the original destination was Paris). The trip was almost 15 hours of straight solo flying. President Trump writes:

The same indominable drive that carried Earhart across the vast and unforgiving ocean 94 years ago continues to draw the eyes of our Nation skyward.  Under my leadership, we are paving the way for a new Golden Age of air travel, championing the development of supersonic flight and advanced aircraft, which will secure America’s place at the forefront of technological advancement.  As the most transparent Administration in American history, I also ordered the release of Government records related to Amelia Earhart’s disappearance.  Just as Earhart defied the limits of human achievement, our Nation is defying the limits of what is possible every day, driving the momentum that will keep America the world’s undisputed engine of innovation and prosperity for centuries to come.

As our Nation celebrates 250 years of independence, we honor those bold American pioneers, who dared to reach beyond what others thought possible.  Earhart’s legacy will forever endure as a reminder that the American spirit has never been content to stand still—it is restless, it is fearless, and it is forever fixed on the horizons of tomorrow.  Together, as we mark the anniversary of Amelia Earhart’s historic feat, we recommit ourselves to the same relentless passion that drove her forward, confident in the belief that the greatest chapter of the American story is still to come.

So far, in the pursuit of precursors to the Revolutionary War, British Parliament passed the Stamp Act (discussed in my March 25, 2026 ANP Article) on March 23, 1765. By October 1765, a Stamp Act Congress was formed in New York City with delegates from 9 colonies to protest taxation without representation (discussed in my March 25, 2026 ANP Article).

This led to the Stamp Act being repealed on March 18, 1766 (discussed in my March 21, 2026 ANP Article); however, it was quickly followed by the June 29, 1767 Townshend Revenue Act (discussed in my May 8, 2026 ANP Article) which were mostly repealed after the March 5, 1770 Boston Massacre (discussed in my March 13, 2026 ANP Article).

The British responded by sending the HMS Gaspee to Rhode Island where it was attacked and burned by the merchants of the colony (discussed in my May 19, 2026 ANP Article), followed by the creation of the Loyal Nine (discussed in my March 28, 2026 ANP Article) and Sons of Liberty (discussed in my March 25, 2026 ANP Article) which led to the creation of the Committees of Correspondence (discussed in my May 20, 2026 ANP Article).

The next major precursor to the Revolutionary War is the Boston Tea Party. On May 10, 1773, the British Parliament passed the Tea Act which gave the British-owned East India Company the exclusive rights to sell tea to the colonies, creating a monopoly. The Colonists viewed this as more taxation without representation and the Sons of Liberty decided to take action.

On the evening of December 16, 1773, 16 members of the Sons of Liberty, disguised as Mohawks (chosen to symbolize the fact that the colonists no longer considered themselves British subjects), along with a group of of 30 to 130 or more men, crept onto the East India Company ship Dartmouth and dumped around 342 chests of loose tea (more than 92,000 pounds) into the sea.

This event was followed by the Philadelphia Tea Party on December 25, 1773. A group of Patriots forced the East India Company ship, Polly, to return to Britain without unloading the tea cargo. By March 1774, "Mohawks" are destroying tea again followed by another incident in April 1774.

Of course, Britain did not take these actions well, seeing it as treason, so they chose to punish the colonies (and especially Massachusetts) in 1774 by passing the Coercive (aka Intolerable) Acts (discussed in my May 8, 2026 ANP Article). These Acts shut down the port of Boston entirely until the East India Company was reimbursed for its loss. As you might suspect, a Revolutionary War would be fought and the East India Company would not be reimbursed for their losses by the colonies.
