Today's article will be rather long as it covers the period January 19 through January 24, 2026. Unexpected things happen when you attempt to upgrade a website that has been around for more than a decade; but, things have worked themselves out and we are back in business.
On January 19, 2026, President Trump signed the Proclamation Martin Luther King, Jr., Federal Holiday, 2026 honoring the work of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Labor unions first offered the idea of a Federal holiday for Dr. King. In 1979, a bill to create a Federal holiday for Dr. King failed. After many years, President Ronald Regan signed the Federal holiday into law on November 2, 1983, setting the 3rd Monday in January of each year as Martin Luther King, Jr Day. The first observance of this holiday was January 20, 1986.
Dr. King pioneered a movement in the 1950s seeking equality as guaranteed by the US Constitution. He thought men should be judged by the content of their character, not on skin color. (These days those on the loony left are back to pushing skin color as the basis for everything.) On August 28, 1963, standing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, Dr. King unified millions of voices with his dream. To honor Dr. King's sacrifice, President Trump has declassified documents related to the assassination of Dr. King. President Trump writes:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim January 19, 2026, as the Martin Luther King, Jr., Federal Holiday. On this day, I encourage all Americans to recommit themselves to Dr. King’s dream by engaging in acts of service to others, to their community, and to our Nation.
On January 20, 2026, the White House published the article 365 WINS IN 365 DAYS: President Trump’s Return Marks New Era of Success, Prosperity highlighting 365 accomplishments in 10 categories: 1) Securing America's Borders and Putting Americans First, 2) Making Our Communities Safe Again, 3) Rebuilding an Economy for Working Americans, 4) Championing American Workers and American Industry, 5) Igniting American Innovation and Technology, 6) Reasserting American Leadership on the World Stage, 7) Forging a Stronger, Modernized Military Force [and servicing American Veterans], 8) Making Government Work for the People, 9) Making America Healthy Again, and 10) Unleashing American Energy Dominance - and Common Sense.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim January 20, 2026, as National Day of Patriotic Devotion, in order to strengthen our bonds to each other and to our country, and to renew the duties of Government to the people.
On January 20, 2026, President Trump signed EO Stopping Wall Street from Competing with Main Street Homebuyers acknowledging in Section 1 that home ownership is a pinnacle of the American dream as well as a way for families to build generational wealth. Unfortunately, corporations are buying single-family homes leading to US Citizens being renters instead of home owners.
In Section 2, the Secretary of the Treasury has 30 days to develop definitions for large institutional investor and single-family home as well as to create departments and agencies for the purpose of implementing this order.
In Section 3, the Secretaries of Agriculture, Housing and Urban Development, and Veterans Affairs along with the Administrator of General Services and the Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency have 60 days from the date of this order to issue guidance preventing the purchase or transfer of single-family homes by large institutional investors, with narrow exceptions for build-to-rent designated as rental communities.
In Section 4, the Secretary of the Treasury is tasked to review rules and guidance with an eye to revising them IAW this order. The AG and Chairman of the FTC are tasked with reviewing acquisitions of single-family homes by large institutional investors for anti-competitive effects while prioritizing enforcement of antitrust laws. Finally, the Secretary of HUD is tasked to require owners and managing agents of single-family home rentals participating in Federal housing assistance programs to disclose involvement of large institutional investors.
In Section 5, the Deputy Chief of Staff for Legislative, Political and Public Affairs is tasked to codify this order.
The accompanying Fact Sheet President Donald J. Trump Stops Wall Street from Competing with Main Street Homebuyers explains that this order will stop Wall Street from competing with Main Street homebuyers by making sure large institutional investors are not buying up single-family homes. This order puts American families first in the housing market and delivers on promises President Trump has made to American families.
On January 21, 2026, the White House posted the research article Artificial Intelligence and the Great Divergence (available as a downloadable PDF here) from the Council of Economic Advisors. This report covers a brief introduction, the future outlook, key metrics to track, cross-country comparisons, and the "Trump Revolution" policies. The report concludes:
The AI revolution, with its parallels to the Industrial Revolution, presents a profound economic inflection point with the potential to significantly increase the GDP of countries that embrace it. We are witnessing clear leaders in AI investment, performance, and adoption metrics across different nations. The United States, as demonstrated by the comprehensive AI Action Plan and related executive orders from the Trump administration, is pursuing a strategy focused on accelerated innovation, infrastructure development, and establishing global dominance through technology exports and deregulation in order to lay the groundwork for American AI dominance.
On January 21, 2026, the White House published the article CEQ Issues Guidance on Emergencies and the National Environmental Policy Act announcing new NEPA emergency guidance (available in downloadable PDF format here) for Federal agencies for emergencies such as catastrophic wildfires, threats to species and their habitat, economic crises, infectious disease outbreaks, and states of emergency declared by the President. Murder rates dropped. There were steep declines in rapes, robberies, aggravated assaults, shooting deaths, Law Enforcement Officer deaths, traffic fatalities, and overdose deaths. Credit is given to President Trump's policies reversing the chaos and carnage by the autopen administration.
EO 14180 Council To Assess the Federal Emergency Management Agency was established because FEMA's response to Hurricane Helene and other recent disasters was, at best, substandard.
In Section 2, the Federal Emergency Management Agency Review Council was created with a maximum of 20 members. The Secretary of Homeland Security and the Secretary of War serve as co-chairs of the council.
Section 3 defines the functions of the council: 1) advise the President on FEMA's ability to capably and impartially address disasters within the US; 2) council will meet regularly and provide various reports to the President on the state of FEMA.

The council recently made downsizing recommendations for FEMA.
On January 22, 2026, the White House published the Presidential Message on National Sanctity of Human Life Day, 2026 affirming the right of every human being to life. Since starting his 2nd term, President Trump has defended the sanctity of life by ending taxpayer-funded abortion at home and abroad, pardoning 23 pro-life activists who were unfairly and unjustly prosecuted by a weaponized DOJ, and currently investigating the weaponization of government against Christians and Americans of faith. President Trump calls for everyone to uphold the eternal truth that every human being is created in the holy image and likeness of God. He calls for Americans to stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves and to be a voice for the voiceless. President Trump writes:
Today, I call on the American people to join me in honoring the dignity of every human life, including those not yet born, to continue to care for women in unexpected pregnancies, and to support adoption and foster care in a more meaningful way so every child can have a loving home. Finally, I ask every citizen of this great Nation to listen to the sound of silence caused by a generation lost to us and then to raise their voices for all affected by abortion, both seen and unseen.
Issued a notice of violation to Illinois for violating federal conscience protections attempting to require health care providers refer women to abortion clinics even if it was against their religious beliefs or moral convictions
Rolled back an autopen policy guaranteeing on-demand, taxpayer-funded abortions for unaccompanied illegal alien children
President Trump and his administration remain steadfast in their commitment to the pro-life cause.

This bill excludes service-connected disability compensation in determining whether individuals are considered low- or moderate-income.
I know a Veteran currently living in Section 8 Housing and about 6 months ago, the housing authority decided to include the service-connected disability compensation in their determination of how much the Veteran will pay as monthly rent (increasing the rent by over $200 per month). This Veteran receives SS disability as the primary source of income and VA compensation for a service-connected disability. This bill will force the housing people to remove the compensation from their income calculations. This new law is a good thing.
HR1823 - VA Budget Shortfall Accountability Act was introduced by Jack Bergman (R-MI-1) on March 4, 2025. The bill has 1 cosponsor Mike Bost (R-IL-12). This bill directs the Secretary of Veterans Affairs and the Comptroller General of the US to report to Congress on funding shortfalls within the VA for FY 2024 and 2025.

Rehabilitation plans for those with a serious employment handicap must have a reasonably feasible vocational goal.
EO 17375 recognizes and designates the Board of Peace as a public international organization under 22 USC 288 (International Organizations Immunities Act).
This notice invokes EO 14203 Imposing Sanctions on the International Criminal Court [ICC] signed February 6, 2025 where President Trump found that the ICC has engaged in illegitimate and baseless actions targeting America and our close ally Israel. President Trump further states that the US and Israel are not parties to the Rome Statute which created the ICC. Neither country has ever recognized ICC jurisdiction. President Trump accuses the ICC of endangering US Citizens (including active military members) exposing them to harassment, abuse, and possible arrest. These actions pose a threat to the National Security of the US. He reminds us that Congress enacted the American Servicemembers' Protection Act of 2002 (22 USC 7421) to protect our service members from rogue courts such as the ICC. President Trump calls for allies of the US who have not consented to ICC jurisdiction to oppose ICC actions against the US, Israel, and other allies. In this EO, the President has determined and ordered:
Section 1 states that all property or interests in property in the US or enter the US under the control of a US Citizen are blocked from transfer, purchase, export, etc.
Section 2 prohibits donations as specified in 203(b)(2) of IEEPA (50 U.S.C. 1702(b)(2)) by anyone blocked in Section 1.
Section 3 specifies that this order includes making a contribution or provisions of funds, goods, or services to anyone in Section 1 or for the benefit of any person whose property and interests in property are blocked by Section 1. It also includes the receipt of such funds, goods, or services from any person blocked in Section 1.
Section 4 restricts entry into the US of immigrants and non-immigrants (and their family members) who are employed by or acting as agents of the ICC.
Section 5 calls for the Secretary of the Treasury to submit a report within 60 days on additional persons to be added to the list created by Section 1.
Section 6 prohibits transactions that evade or avoid any provisions set forth in this EO.
Section 7 does not prohibit transactions for official business of the Federal Government by employees, grantees, or their contractors.
Section 8 defines terms used in this EO.
Section 9 specifies that there will be no prior notice because the ability to transfer funds or other assets instantaneously render notification ineffectual.
Section 10 authorizes the Secretary of the Treasury to employ all powers granted to implement this EO as well as authorizes the Secretary to delegate/redelegate authority applicable with Federal Law.
Section 11 authorizes the Secretary of the Treasury to submit recurring and final reports to Congress.
This continuation finds that the deepening potential for an economic collapse in Afghanistan continues to pose a threat to US National Security and US Foreign Policy possibly creating a widespread humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. The needs of the Afghanistan people for food, water, sanitation, health, hygiene, shelter, and work support will be greatly affected by such a collapse.

Award CPB its costs, reasonable attorney’s fees, and other disbursements as appropriate; and
Grant such other relief as the Court deems necessary, just, and proper.

Upon consideration of the parties' joint status report, Dkt. 46, it is hereby ORDERED that the case is DISMISSED as moot in light of the parties' agreement that the Rescissions Act of 2025 and the subsequent dissolution of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting moot this case.

In the lawsuit, Khalil v. Those are some of the exact words used by Google’s censors, aka 'Orwellian content police,' in describing many of our controversial stories. Stories later proven to be truthful and light years ahead of the mainstream media. But because we reported those 'inconvenient truths' they're trying to bankrupt ANP.
